Varietal (Type of Honey)
Buckwheat honey is a monofloral honey, which means the bees producing it primarily visit only one type of plant - the buckwheat flower. Buckwheat is typically grown for its grain-like (gluten free) seed.
There are many health benefits of buckwheat honey, most of which are rooted in the fact that raw buckwheat honey has a high level of antioxidant activity. In fact, this study notes that the antioxidant levels in participants’ bodies who consumed buckwheat honey in water had “increased significantly”.
You can expect this buckwheat honey to have a dark amber to dark brown color and possess a strong, full-bodied flavor, less sweet and most commonly described as earthy molasses.
At Neighborhood Hive, we sell only raw and unfiltered honey, and our buckwheat honey is no different. Unlike most of the highly-processed honey you'll find in your local grocery store, our products are never pasteurized and have only had wax and other large particles removed before bottling. This ensures all the good stuff found naturally in raw honey (vitamins, minerals, pollen, enzymes, and antioxidants) is preserved. It's the real deal - straight from the hive.
By shopping with Neighborhood Hive, you’re supporting the sustainable beekeeping operation of local beekeepers and apiaries (honey farms) across the US. Our partnership model enables us to connect customers to a wide variety of high quality, raw and unfiltered honey from diverse regions across the US.
The apiary responsible for this raw buckwheat honey began their beekeeping journey in the foothills of northern Orange County, CA and has remained family owned and operated since. Now, with multiple hives across Southern California, and based in the Los Angeles suburb of Yorba Linda, your order will ship directly from this apiary, typically within 2 business days of receipt.
