Varietal (Type of Honey)
Blueberry honey is a monofloral honey harvested from the nectar produced from the tiny white flowers of the blueberry bush. Blueberry honey has an aroma reminiscent of green leaves with a touch of lemon. Moderately fruity in flavor with a delicate, slightly buttery finish, it is light to medium amber in color.
This raw Blueberry honey is produced in the pine barren region of New Jersey and on the blueberry barrens of Washington County Maine. Each year we transport over 5,000 colonies of honey bees to help pollinate the blueberry crops in both of these states. The blueberry blossom produces a drop of nectar at the base of the flower that is visible to the naked eye. The resulting all natural raw honey that is produced by the bees is amber in color and consistent in taste from year to year.
By shopping with Neighborhood Hive, you’re supporting the beekeeping operation of local beekeepers and Honey Farms across the globe. The beekeeper responsible for this wildflower honey: Crystal’s Honeys, is part of Merrimack Valley Apiaries Inc. (MVA), a family owned honeybee farm started in Billerica Mass. It all started in 1958 when the family purchased their first package of bees from Sears and Roebuck.
